It has been found recently that the area surrounding our nations capital has one of the highest rates for auto insurance. Maryland average insurance rate for car coverage has been reported to be just around $940 for a six month period. The only place in the United States that is known to pay a higher median premium is Louisiana, which is ranked at around $1100.
The District of Colombia when compared to the other 50 states comes in at number 6 with a policy average of $823, as reported by InsWeb Corporation. It has been found that the states that have higher insurance rates are often states that also have higher median incomes.
Many believe that the higher median incomes also lead to consumers purchasing more expensive cars. These cars are likely to draw more expensive auto premiums as it usually takes more money to have them fixed. Maine and Idaho are the states that have the lowest average auto insurance policy rates.
