One of the pressing issues in auto insurance for states is the number of uninsured drivers. The number of uninsured drivers not only causes excessive costs when they are involved in an accident, but it also increase car insurance rates for everyone else. Recently the Alabama Senate has voted yes towards setting up a database to aid in auto insurance verification.
The bill was passed unanimously by the senate with a vote of 35 to 0. The bill will aid in creating a system where checking for auto insurance would become a quick and easy task for law enforcement. The new verification database will assist two sets of people in insuring auto coverage.
People at the license plate office will immediately be able to see if applicants for renewal have liability insurance. In addition police would have the option to check for the insurance upon traffic stops. The information is required to be given to the state by insurance companies.
